New Offers for Reliance Jio Customer. Now, Voice Calls to Any Network in India Free
- Tech Backbone
Reliance Jio certainly knows how to make New Year's happy for its customers. India's largest telecom firm today revealed that it is making all domestic calls free from 1 January 2021 onwards. You will be free to "place calls to any domestic network across India" from your Jio number.
If you recall, when it agreed to start charging for calls users make to other domestic networks earlier last year, Jio faced a lot of flak. When it opened in India back in 2016, the firm had offered consumers lifetime free calls.
Due to a delay in the introduction by TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) of the 'Bill and Hold regime' in 2020, Jio states that when you make calls to networks outside Jio, it has no choice but to charge the relevant IUC (interconnect use charges). Back in 2019, this prompted the company to raise the rates of its 4G LTE tariff plans in India. It began charging 6 pairs per minute for calls to Airtel, Concept, or BSNL numbers from Jio's network (the IUC charge set by TRAI).
Free Voice Calls from Jio to Any Network
Now, Reliance Jio has shared in an official press release that the 'IUC regime' for domestic voice calls is coming to an end today. On 1 January 2021, it will be replaced by the 'Bill and Hold regime'. The organisation has now repeated its pledge and agreed to make all off-net domestic voice calls free once again. If you didn't already remember, on-net domestic voice calls have always been free for Jio users.
In addition, Reliance Jio added that it aims to "be a free-voice nation for India, with most smartphone users enjoying free voice calls." This is undoubtedly a perfect New Year's gift to Jio's subscribers.
At present, the company has over 406 million customers and provides only 4G LTE services in India. In the second half of 2021, Jio is planning to be the first to phase out 5G network services. The government has been encouraged to implement new measures to speed up the auction and testing phase of the spectrum. Through the use of indigenously produced hardware and technology modules, the organisation also aims to contribute to the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
