Beginning today, the super popular chat app Discord is having a much-requested feature: smartphone screen sharing.

Mobile screen sharing, as the name suggests, lets users catch and relay everything on the monitor of their phone and stream it to a network of friends. The company tells me that where there is a lot of onscreen motion, they have been especially focused on making it work well, allowing for stuff like game streaming or remote YouTube/TikTok viewing parties with high frame rates and reduced latency.

Streaming your mobile device's view means sharing all that flows around your phone's screen — so if you don't want random messages potentially showing up midstream, you'll want to turn on your phone's Do Not Interrupt feature.

In 2017, Discord first picked up functionality for screen sharing, rolling it out alongside video chat. A desktop or laptop has been sufficient since then to share the screen; this upgrade brings iOS and Android devices into the mix. Mobile screen sharing feeds can be delivered concurrently to up to 50 subscribers, with no limit on how many people can share screens on the same channel.

The feature should start rolling out today, but if you don't see it immediately, don't be surprised; it's coming out in waves, so some are going to see it faster than others. If the rollout goes as expected, it should be available to all consumers of compatible devices by the end of the day on Thursday.
