Google is almost running out of AR/VR to kill off ventures.
In an email to Poly users today the company confirmed that next year they would shut down the 3D-object development and library framework "forever". On June 30, 2021, the website will shut down and users will not be able to upload 3D models to the web beginning on April 30, 2021.
As a virtual reality integrated 3D development platform, Poly was added. Users were able to build low-poly artefacts quickly with in-VR software. Compared to more painting and sculpting-focused VR applications like Google's Tilt Brush and Facebook's (now Adobe's) Medium app, the software was developed to act as a lightweight way to build and display 3D assets that could in turn end up in games and experiences.
Most of the company's AR/VR games have already been discontinued by Google, most prominently their Daydream smartphone VR platform.
