Telegram's latest beta update also reportedly supports the 'Announce Messages' functionality of Siri, making it the first third-party software to support the feature that was initially introduced earlier this year at WWDC 2020.
A variety of Apple's first-party applications and utilities, including Messages and Home, also support the functionality. However, provided that the API is now open to all developers, it can only be a matter of time before the new feature is adopted by more third-party applications and utilities in the days to come.
Apple's interactive digital assistant will now be able to read and respond to messages from the popular messaging service due to the upgrade to Telegram beta on iOS and iPadOS even though the system itself is locked, whether an iPhone or an iPad. As part of the plan, before reading out the sender's name and the message itself, Siri would first play a melody to remind the user of a new message in the inbox. Users will then use Siri to respond to the message as well.
Announce Messages is compliant with iOS 13.2 and higher, but only Apple's own headphones and earphones, including AirPods, AirPods Pro, Powerbeats, Powerbeats Pro and Beats Solo Pro, would allow users to use it.
Telegram is the first and only third-party service that currently supports the feature, although at some point we should expect other developers to implement it into their own applications. In the meantime the new Telegram update is still available, with no news about when it will be rolled out to the stable version of the software.
