TikTok Overtakes Facebook to become the most downloaded app worldwide for 2020

As per an industry study on smartphone trends, TikTok overtook Facebook to become the most downloaded platform globally in 2020. TikTok skipped three positions on the list and analytical company App Annie is forecast to enter into next year's 1 billion monthly active user club. However the top five most downloaded apps list dominated Facebook's apps, with Facebook coming in second, WhatsApp Messenger third, and Instagram As per the App Annie data analytics platform's annual report on smartphone patterns, the current pandemic has increased our mobile use by two to three years; time spent on mobile devices was one of the key areas of development this year. Company applications, which were up 200 percent, due to conference resources such as Zoom, are the main categories of development in time spent.
Downloads and user spending statistics are based on cumulative results up to November 2020 from the iOS App Store and Google Play, with iOS results only representing China. The monthly active users' results on iPhone and Android phones together exclude China and are based on data from January to October 2020.
According to the study, customers who flocked to the app to build, socialise, and keep amused was one of the factors contributing to TikTok's development. The study noted that TikTok increased its cross-app use with video streaming players such as Netflix, suggesting that it blurred the boundaries between social and streaming, and also became more important on its own in the streaming world.Facebook Messenger, Google Meet, Snapchat, Telegram, and Like round up the list of the top 10 applications downloaded worldwide.
Global spending on iOS and Google Play increased by 25% to meet $112 billion in 2020 (approximately Rs. 8,26,100 crores). The top markets driving growth for iOS are Japan, the US and the UK, while South Korea, Germany, and the US top Google Play's chart. $0.71 (approximately Rs. 52) went to games on iOS and Google Play combined with every dollar.
In-app subscriptions drove the most progress among non-gaming types of applications. According to the report, sports, industry, and finance were the main categories of growth globally. Brazil, India and Indonesia have been the main contributors to the rise in Google Play downloads. The highest increase in downloads on iOS was seen by Japan, Saudi Arabia, and the US.
Tinder led the app list with the most user purchases, led by TikTok, which shot up 15 spots. Next on the list are Twitter, Disney+, and Tencent Video. As per the study, after its rollout into the European and Latin American markets, Disney+ had a standout year for growth this year.
Free Fire, led by Subway Surfers, Among Us, PUBG Mobile, and Gardenscapes: New Acres, was the most downloaded game worldwide this year. The study noted that Among Us had a standout year in downloads as well as active users for development this year.
