The "Watch Party" functionality of Amazon Prime Video is now available in India, close to how the third-party Netflix Party extension functions. Watch Party" allows you to stream and chat with up to 100 friends and family members with a Prime Video title (as long as everyone involved also has an Amazon Prime membership) in a sidebar." Amazon takes charge of synchronization of video and audio, all you have to do is choose a title (and get the popcorn). With this, Amazon has become India's first big streaming platform to come up with its own community watch feature, which works everywhere.

To get started, head over to the Web browser at primevideo.com. "Watch Party" from Amazon is only restricted to computer browsers such as Chrome and Firefox. (Safari and Internet Explorer are not supported.) Find the title you're interested in viewing with others until you're logged in. You need to see a Watch Group button on the title page (as below). For TV shows, next to any individual episode, the Watch Party button is also visible. If you press Watch Party, before you can hit Build Watch Party, you'll be asked to pick a chat name (as above). You'll then be granted a relation that you can communicate with others.

Your friends and family must also use a computer browser to access the "Watch Party" of your Amazon Prime Video. Video functions, including pause, play, rewind, and fast forward, Amazon says, will be open to the person who formed the Watch Group. This is unlike the Netflix Party, where you can pause, play, rewind, and fast forward everyone on the video. But for Amazon's "Watch Party", the choice of audio and subtitle language is the only control for participants. With Netflix Party, this isn't necessary, since Netflix itself has not made the browser extension.

Back in July, Amazon initially carried out "Watch Party" in the US. If you are hoping to watch Prime Video in the US with your friends and family, you would be saddened to know that Amazon's "Watch Party" does not work across boundaries, unlike Netflix Party.
