For some upcoming holiday, Zoom is lifting the 40-minute meeting limit

In view of many upcoming holidays, Zoom will raise its 40-minute meeting limit for free accounts globally, the firm reported to The Verge. In celebration of Hanukkah, Christmas Eve, Christmas, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day and Kwanzaa, the restrictions will be withdrawn. The association similarly lifted its 40-minute limit for Thanksgiving Day last month.
Here is specifically when the 40-minute limit will be eliminated from Zoom:
- 10AM ET Thursday, the 17th of December at 6AM ET Saturday, the 19th of December at the end of Hanukkah
- Wednesday, December 23rd, 10AM ET to 6AM ET on Saturday, December 26th, Christmas Eve and Christmas Eve
- 10AM ET on Wednesday, December 30th, and 6AM ET on Saturday, January 2nd, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day and Kwanzaa End on Saturday, January 2nd
Meetings of three or more people hosted on the free tier of Zoom will normally last no longer than 40 minutes. If you were to chat longer, you'd have to go through the trouble of starting another meeting and asking everybody to join again. Hopefully, by lowering the threshold for these holidays, simulated meetings with friends and relatives will focus less on the clock and more on catching up with loved ones.
That's an alternative, too, if you want to use Google Meet to communicate with family and friends, as Google allows free users to host calls that last up to 24 hours until March 31, 2021.
