The video streaming giant has now introduced a similar alternative to its website after adding replay speed controls to Netflix's smartphone platform on Android. On Netflix's mobile app, the company has also begun exploring an audio-only feature.
Web Speed Controls on Netflix Replay
You can select a replay speed ranging from 0.5x to 1.5x, much like its smartphone equivalent. The functionality is present in the lower right corner of the player gui as a speedometer icon that appears when you play a movie or TV show. The choice to set the playback speed to 0.5x, 0.75x, 1x, 1.25x, or 1.5x is displayed when you press on the speedometer icon.
On Netflix for the internet, replay speed control occurs by default. In other words, to allow the function, you don't have to go through the trouble of digging deep into configurations. The subtitle even synchronizes seamlessly for your selected replay speed and that's fantastic news.
Although unlike YouTube videos, I don't like to stream movies or TV shows at an accelerated speed, this new alternative should come in handy for those who like to consume media at a fast-paced manner. For what it's worth, instead of making the effort to check and skip manually, I might consider using this for skipping tracks.
Audio-only Netflix Mode on Smartphone
Another feature in the works is a handheld sound-only mode. The feature, first spotted last month by XDA in an APK teardown, is now on Android in beta testing. The choice is available in the new Netflix version 7.83.0 build 25 252233.0 as spotted by Anmol from our team (beta).
You can continue listening to a movie or series in the background with the audio-only mode when using other software or while the computer is closed. You can see the buttons to change the audio-only mode in the player app until they are commonly accessible.
Although playback speed controls are rolling out widely on the internet, at this moment, audio mode is only available for beta testers. In the future, we might expect the company to extend the audio-only mode test or availability, so stay tuned for updates.
